What is Gasification?

Gasification is essentially the conversion of solid Hydrocarbon feedstocks (wood/ wood-waste, agricultural residues, chicken manure, coal, Municipal Waste etc.) into a combustible gas mixture called Producer Gas / Syn Gas.

A gasifier is essentially a reactor where solid fuels like biomass and waste are converted into a clean, combustible gas called producer gas through a series of thermochemical processes.

Feed enters the gasifier from the top and producer gas generated is drawn from the bottom.

How it Works

A gasifier has 4 zones where key processes:

Drying

Moisture in the fuel evaporates as it gets heated, preparing the material for the next stage of transformation.

Pyrolysis

The dried fuel breaks down into gases and solid carbon (char) when heated without oxygen, initiating the conversion process.

Combustion

A controlled amount of air is added, and part of the pyrolysis products are oxidized to H₂O and CO₂. Heat is generated during this exothermic process.

Reduction

CO₂ and H₂O react with carbon in the reduction bed to form producer gas (CO + H₂). This endothermic reaction occurs at high temperatures.

Transforming Feedstock into Renewable Energy

The Gasifier converts biomass or MSW into producer gas, which can directly replace conventional fuels like furnace oil, diesel, Natural Gas or other fossil fuels in thermal applications such as kilns, dryers, and furnaces.
